Hands-on with Ubuntu TV, above and under the hood

I like the TV channel guide interface a lot. If only there was a system that looked like that and actually worked reliably without cable providers crippling them. It seems to me like smooth TV or computer-integrated software has been designed several times but the cable companies have always made it a hassle to have them work well with their content for any length of time. A working no-fuss solution is always coming out some time in the near future.
